Cheat Codes

At the Steam control panel, Right Click the "Left 4 Dead 2" option, and select "Properties" under the "My Games" tab. In the General tab, select "Set Launch Options", enter "-console" in that field, and accept it. Start the game, and the console window should appear at the main menu. Enter "bind p toggleconsole" as a console command. Then, type one of the following "map [map name]" codes and press [Enter] to load the corresponding map. Note: The same entries can be used with the "changelevel [map name]" or "changelevel [map name]" codes during the game.

Cheat mode

Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the current saved game file for your profile in the "\My Documents\Amnesia\Main\" directory. Search for the following lines, and change their values as indicated to activate the corresponding cheat function. Note: Only change the values under the "cLuxPlayer_SaveData" node in the saved game file.

Infinite XP

This glitch works anywhere, but the first and easiest place to do it is at Adam Jensen's computer, which is located in his office at Sarif HQ, after returning from the Sarif Manufacturing Plant hostage situation. Use the discovered Praxis Kit and an earned Praxis point to upgrade to Hacking Security Level 3. Try to collect as many Nuke Programs as possible to help speed up the process. The Nuke Programs can be collected in the Sarif Manufacturing Plant, or while searching and hacking into the computers around Sarif HQ. Before starting a hack, save the game. Hack all optional nodes, or the Network node to instantly complete the hack. Do not exit out of the hack or press a button to complete it; you will also want to make sure you are getting an +XP bonus. While using Adam Jensen's computer, hacking the special reward nodes will get you a +500 XP bonus. When you have acquired the optional nodes or captured the network node, pause the game, and load the saved game created before you hacked. Again, do not complete the hack. When the "Access Granted" window appears, do not select "OK". Press Start, and you will notice you cannot save. Load the saved game you created before starting the hack. Then, try the hack again. Repeat the previous steps, and capture every optional node or the network node. The game will keep your previous +500 XP bonus. For your second try, you will get +1000 XP. For your third try, you will get +1500 XP, etc. Do the trick five times to get +2500 XP. Make sure to keep loading and never select "OK" to complete the hack. Repeat this trick as many times as desired to get a lot of XP early in the game. You can always return to Adam Jensen's computer later in the game to repeat this trick, or try it on other hacking challenges throughout the game. Note: This glitch was done on an unpatched version of the game. You can delete all patches for the game by using the "Clear hard drive cache" code for the Xbox 360.

Debug mode

Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the "config.ini" file in the game directory. Change the "DebugPanel = 0" line to "DebugPanel = 1". Start a new game, and press ~ to display a debug panel on the right side. For example, select the "Reveal All" option to view the full map.

Successfully complete the indicated task to unlock the corresponding achievement. To view your achievements and stats in Steam, select "Community", "My profile", "View all my games", then the game and view stats.

1999 mode
At the main menu, press Up(2), Down(2), Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A to unlock 1999 mode. Alternately, successfully complete the game. In 1999 mode, the game is more difficult. You must stick with the specialization you choose, and your actions will be ruled by that choice. Ammo is scarce, and health is more important. If you die, you must have the proper resources needed (like money) to revive, or the game will be over. The mode's name is a reference to System Shock 2, one of the precursors that inspired BioShock, which was released in 1999. Note: Enabling this code will unlock the "Should Auld Acquaintance..." achievement, and will not prevent other achievements from being unlocked.
